Volunteering as a Pitch Coach

Through Project Invent, teams of high school students work alongside their community partners to create a working product for social impact causes. During this process, students present their social impact ideas and their final products in front of a panel of judges at Demo Day in April. To help students prepare for these pitches, working industry professionals volunteer as pitch coaches through their experiences presenting at work-related meetings, speaking in front of small to midsize groups, or pitching their own ideas.

Celebrating 2022 - Project Invent’s Impact

In our report, we are energized to share our Teacher Impact and our Stories of Us.

The students from Team Ubrella partnered with Selena, a community partner that works at a local homeless shelter, to speak with and learn from people experiencing homelessness. Through their partnership, students learned about the dangers of severe weather exposure and developed their invention, Ubrella, a unique umbrella with both heating and cooling functions.

One student from GALA shared, “Normally in school, they ask you, “What would you do?” Project Invent forced us to wonder, “What can you do?”

We heard from teams who spent the past year creating innovations for impact: things like food allergy response technologies to save their classmate from life-threatening allergic reactions or quick-deploy tents to help farmers in Central Valley protect their hay.
